In this episode I discuss Stephanie's "first" trip to the Batcave and what it means and the return of Birds of Prey, the comic series. I review Detective Comics #369 and Batman #197, which round out the year of 1967, and Batgirl #4, #5, and #6. I give my literary recommendation and tease a little surprise for Episode 4.

Great job again stella, thx for the longer show. Are you going to run through any of the batgirl episodes on tv? like the 1966 show and the animated series, etc...?
ReplyDeleteApple, I am going to discuss Batgirl's media incarnations with a special co-host. I'm not sure when I'm going to do that, however.
ReplyDeleteThanks Stella, another hugely enjoyable episode, I also appreciated the extended running time.
ReplyDeleteI've mentioned before that I'm revisiting the back-issues - courtesy of Showcase - as you review them and I'm particularly enjoying the dialogue in these older issues. So far the stories themselves have been ... nice, fun, charming, but I'm especially getting a lot of pleasure from the language used in the stories:
'Batgirl! The newest of the Gotham gangbusters!'
'I'm more than a handful for you!'
'Wonder what they were gabbing about?'
'Will you cut out this foolishness'
(Detective Comics #369)
it's dated without being out of date, of its time and yet timeless - writing qualities that I also appreciate throughout the Conan Doyle Sherlock Holmes canon of short stories which in themselves are simple tales beautifully written.
I'm looking forward to the next episode.
Hi Stella, just wanted to start by saying I’ve been listening to your podcast since the start and it is fantastic, you have such a natural talent for casting and your love of Batgirl really shows. You even have me calling Barbara Gordon Babs now!
ReplyDeleteYou have mentioned Zaius at the Escape from Tomorrow blog, but I thought he deserved another one as it was his comments on his blog that got me listening to your show. You are also both guilty of between you convincing me to get back into reading Batgirl, of which I’m defo going to be picking up the first trade when it is published later this year.
The hour long episode is great, I do have a request though, and it is this: when you get a sponsor for your show (which I’m sure you will soon), please keep the spoof sponsors going; they are a stroke of pure genius. They always make me laugh out loud, which can be embarrassing depending on were I’m listening to your show on my iPod.
Keep up the great work, can’t wait until the next instalment.
Thanks Simon! I really appreciate your complements! Haha, I'm glad Zaius and I both got you back into Batgirl! You know it's good when a die-hard Babs fan like myself is really loving Steph as the new Batgirl! And I will definitely keep the pseudo-sponsors! I enjoy coming up with a new one each month and I'm glad they are enjoyable!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your podcast! The Catwoman cover brought back memories. I had this issue when it was poublished way back when. The only thing I really remember from this issue was when Catwoman unmasked the 3 Bat-heroes, only to find they had painted their faces where their mask covered their faces. Like your rating system. Keep up the good work. Enjoy your sense of humor. Ir comes in handy with a lot of these lovable but whacky silver-age stories.
ReplyDeleteThank-you!
